Shoe Goomba
Shoe Goombas are incredibly rare enemies in Super Mario Bros 3. Three of them appear in the whole game and are all in the same level. If they spot you, they will take a huge leap toward you. A stomp or fireball can defeat them BUT - if they are standing on a brick and you hit the brick from below, the defeated Goomba will pop out of the shoe and you can take the shoe for yourself! It allows Mario to stomp on Piranha Plants, Spinies, and Bob-ombs and walk on Munchers! Don't waste one of your 3 ONLY CHANCES to grab this elusive item.

Boss Feature: False Bowser
False Bowsers are lesser enemies transformed into Bowser's image by Bowser's dark magic or Super Leaves. These copies have all of Bowser's powers but are not perfect - they are given away by color differentiations or Tanooki tails. They primarily attack by jumping and breathing fire, but may also swing their tails. They are nearly invulnerable, but many fireballs, a hop on a switch or an axe can take them down. When defeated, they reveal their true forms. In their initial appearance in Super Mario Bros, they lack Tanooki Tails. They are the bosses of all castles except the final castle. The real enemies within are a Goomba, a Koopa Troopa, a Buzzy Beetle, a Spiny, a Lakitu, a Blooper, and a Hammer Bro. They served the same purpose in Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. Their next appearance was Super Mario 3D Land, in which they gained Tanooki Tails. They now do their jumping in a 3D stage. There are only 2 of them in this game - in the first 2 castles. They are really a Goomba and a Magikoopa.

Mekabon
The Mekabon is an uncommon robotic enemy in Super Mario Land, appearing in world 2-2. They patrol an area, and will only pause to detach their heads and toss them. The heads will then return like boomerangs. At any time, the head or body can be stomped or hit by a Superball to be defeated.
Short post, so here's a sneak peek!

Tailed Enemies
In Super Mario 3D Land, the powers of the Super Leaf bestow Tanooki powers on multiple enemies, making them tougher to beat! Here is a list:
Goomba: They can float and swing their tails to attack.
Bob-omb: They fly towards Mario instead of walking.
Bullet Bill: They can swing their tails when Mario approaches.
Thwomp: They can move around and then slam down.
Boo: When Mario looks at them, they swing their tails, THEN stop moving.

Boss Feature: Dry Bowser
Dry bowser is the skeletal undead form of Bowser, usually created by Bowser falling into lava and burning up. He is immune to fireballs and breathes unearthly blue or purple fire. In his first appearance in New Super Mario Bros, he is the boss of the first castle of World 8. In addition to breathing fire and jumping, he also throws his own bones Hammer Bro-style. To defeat him, Mario must get behind him and press the Skull Switch, breaking the floor and sending Dry Bowser into a deep pit.
His next appearance is in Super Mario 3D Land. In this game he is the boss of all castles in the Special Worlds. He usually is fought while there is very little time left on the clock. He breathes blue fire and advances toward Mario at the same time. Pressing the Skull Switch will, again, send Dry Bowser into the lava below.

Dual Boss Feature: Boom Boom + Pom Pom!
Before I say anything, please ignore the blank thought bubble. It was the product of a complete mistake.
One of these bosses is a blast from the past; one of them is brand new; both take 3 hits to the head to defeat. Boom Boom (the tan one) first appeared in Super Mario Bros 3, as the boss of every fortress. He would run and jump and occasionally sprout wings and fly. After being stomped, he would extend spikes from his shell and become temporarily invincible. His next appearance is in the brand new game Super Mario 3D Land as the boss of half of the airship levels. In this game, he attacks by spinning like a top until he gets dizzy and is vulnerable. After he is stomped, he goes into his shell (rendering him invincible) and bounces around the room.
The pink and obviously female creature is Pom Pom, Boom Boom's counterpart in Super Mario 3D Land. She occupies the rest of the airship levels and, in the final of these, teams up with Boom Boom. She attacks by tossing her boomerangs and jumping. After being stomped, she goes into her shell and hovers, then slams down, trying to squash Mario. Both of them, after being defeated fully, drop a large number of coins and a pipe appears leading to the ending flag.

Sumo Bro
Sumo Bros are relatives of Hammer Bros who appear in Super Mario World. They almost always appear on a platform high above the ground, like pictured. At regular intervals, they stomp, sending a small bolt of lightning down through their platform. When it hits the ground below, it generates a fire, which goes away after a few seconds. The Bro then moves to a new spot on the platform and repeats this. Mario can not touch the lightning or fire or he will take damage. The Bro itself can be defeated with a Spin Jump, since the spike on its head prevents stomping.
