Koopa Troopa

Koopa Troopas are one of Mario's simplest enemies. They are turtles whom, when stomped on, will retreat into their shells OR get knocked out of their shells and become Beach Koopas, depending on which game you're playing. The shells can then be kicked, carried, and/or thrown as the player wishes. Koopas appear in the majority of Mario games, but the shells have their most important role in Super Mario World. Koopas are the most common enemies in this game, and they come in 4 different shell colors. These can bestow special powers upon Yoshi, if Yoshi happened to eat one. Green ones can be spit back out at high speed, red ones cause fire breath, blue ones allowed temporary flight, and yellow ones create tremors when Yoshi hits the ground. Also, if a Beach Koopa happens upon a Yellow Shell in the same game, it will jump in and become a Kamikaze Koopa, wildly shell-dashing towards Mario. If Yoshi eats a Kamikaze Koopa, it will gain all 3 special shell powers at once. In the 3-D Super Mario Galaxy, the shells can only be thrown and do not rebound from objects. In New Super Mario Bros, Blue Shells are power-ups that can transform Mario into Shell Mario, and a single Blue Koopa Troopa appears in a multiplayer battle stage. Grabbing its shell serves the same purpose as the other Blue Shell power-ups.
